An elderly woman lives alone on a farm awaiting death to be reunited with her deceased husband. One night, while she is sleeping, she receives a visit from Death, which invites her to cross the threshold. But, just when she is on the verge of doing so, she wakes up in a hospital emergency room. An arrogant doctor has given her life back to her. A frenetic struggle ensues between the two to see who will get the life of the old woman.
The Spanish film The Lady and the Reaper [La Dama y la Muerte ], a co-production by Kandor Graphics and Antonio Banderas, is a nominee for the Oscar in the category of Best Animation Short Film. Its the first time a Spanish short film has been a nominee in this category.
The short film, directed by Javier Recio Gracia and resulting from the efforts of Granada Studio Kandor Graphics in association with Antonio Banderas production company Green Moon, came out of a desire by the studio to create its own production with an international scope for distribution. To do so, once the companys first feature film, The Missing Lynx, was finished, an internal contest took place with the aim to promote talent and channelize artistic and technical crew anxieties. The Lady and the Reaper [La Dama y la Muerte ] was the result of this contest.
Kandor Graphics in association with Green Moon and Antonio Banderas are currently working on Goleor, the first animation feature film made in Spain in 3D. The 22 million Euro film is directed by Manuel Sicilia and produced by Juan Molina, Marcelino Almansa, Enrique Posner and Raul Garcia.
